I recall Jim Hogan & company playing at the Fillmore, but perhaps that is one more DAC removed from 2012.

On DAC itself, my fact-based analysis shows that it is an excellent indicator of the state of EDA in 2012.

>> Is it "healthy" to have fewer companies? That depends upon which side of the consolidation you happen to be sitting, doesn't it?

>> Is it "healthy" that Cadence, Synopsys, and Mentor put more focus on their own user events now?

>> Is it "healthy" for DAC organizers to accede to the personal protests of one blogger, and cancel the cheerleaders? Is there now a "no cheering" policy?

EDA is smaller, so DAC is smaller. That doesn't need to mean it is less exciting. EDAC should use DAC to highlight the new ventures. That just might put some life back into the event.EE Daily Newshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01609630249488100984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-178947916580376471.post-20737615693009631782012-06-14T00:09:37.035-07:002012-06-14T00:09:37.035-07:00[Preface: yes, it's me, Joe Hupcey III -- no i...[Preface: yes, it's me, Joe Hupcey III -- no idea why Blogger botched the feed through my Google account name]

Some rebuttal on the party:
-- It was held at the exact same venue (Ruby Skye) the last time DAC was in SF
-- While Cadence was the only sponsor this year, as per tradition staffers from other EDA vendors were invited -- and I know for a fact they attended (the sole exception being the Purple people as noted above).

Putting the party aside:
To your main point that this show is in decline vs. what it used to be -- I can't argue with you there. However, as I'll note in my post-DAC blog report (being written in another window right now), after talking with customers and our Field team, at least in 2012 it's clear to me that the declining DAC attendance figures does not reflect the health of the EDA or semiconductor industries.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06379010216332369827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-178947916580376471.post-20889562814763960282012-06-12T16:13:37.334-07:002012-06-12T16:13:37.334-07:00@Unknown (Joe?). Most EDA veterans know what the Denali party was, for good and also for bad. The good? It used to be an EDA industry event, with participation and sponsorship from the leading EDA companies. That is no longer the case, just as Denali no longer exists.

DAC circa 2012 is reflective of the current state of the industry. The big companies do their own thing. DAC used to be an exciting event. The 20% decline in show floor attendance in just 3 years says it all.EE Daily Newshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01609630249488100984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-178947916580376471.post-52373012358228981862012-06-12T14:21:06.653-07:002012-06-12T14:21:06.653-07:00One comment specifically on the Denali Party: mayb...One comment specifically on the Denali Party: maybe you left early, but it was as packed as ever when I arrived. That's a big deal!. Not only did we automate analog, but we provided an entire 28nm AMS design suite expressly for the designer - providing true LDE parasitics in the first simulation -and - eliminating layout drudgery, including 100% routing, always fully electrically aware. Easy to use - the designer outputs complete layout in a day!

Now that's sexy!Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16763863952803918697noreply@blogger.com
